Who we are

We are a group of passionate local people working to make East Dulwich a Plastic Free Community through the Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Community programme.

It’s not about removing all plastic from our lives, it’s about kicking our addiction to throwaway, single-use plastic and changing the system that produces it.

We are working with and engaging local council, community groups, businesses, schools and colleges to raise awareness and drive behaviour change around this issue.

Please follow us to show your support and sign up for our newsletter to find out more about local events and how you can help.

What we do

East Dulwich Businesses

Helping local businesses reduce their reliance on avoidable plastics. Any business that removes or replaces at least 3 items of single-use plastic qualifies for Plastic Free Champion status.

If you are a local business and would like advice please get in touch for a free meeting.

Please show your support for the businesses who have already lead the way:

East Dulwich Schools

We have run assemblies at 11 local schools and it's always inspiring to see how engaged the children are in these issues. They could definitely teach the adults a thing or two (as Greta Thunberg has shown).

We continue to engage local schools so please get in touch if you are a local parent or teacher and would like to learn more.

There is also a specific pupil-led Plastic Free Schools programme run by Surfers Against Sewage that you can learn more about here.

East Dulwich Events

We regularly run community clean events. Other events include films screenings, partnered talks with like-minded groups such as Extinction Rebellion, school and local fairs.

We'd love to see you at any or all of these so please follow our social channels or pop back here to find out about upcoming events.

If you have an idea for an event or would like us to come and speak at your event or to your community group then drop us a line.

Next community clean

Peckham Rye Park & Homestall Road

Sunday, 31st October 2021, 10.30am

We’re teaming up with neighbours and friends Plastic Free Peckham 🤝 as well as with residents of a local street - they got in touch to suggest the location for a community clean. Unfortunately it gets littered, and could do with an extra pair of gloved hands and litter pickers 🧃🙅

And, of course, it’s going to be Halloween-themed - because what’s spookier than litter?! 👻🗑

Fancy-dress is optional, but please do wear weather-appropriate clothing 🌩 Gloves, bags and litter pickers will be provided. All are welcome - we can’t wait to see you there! 💪
